After a good rest during the summer holidays,
we are now right back into the swing of things in St Cronan's.
Here are just some of the things we have been up to ...
Cake & Plant Sale
On Wednesday 29th September, we held a Cake and Plant sale in the school hall. We would like to especially thank the members of the Parents' Committee for organising the event, along with our school secretary Mrs. Anne Ivory and the plant sale coordinator Mrs. Noreen Dodd. As always, this event was very well supported by parents and children alike, and we would like to thank everyone who contributed to the event.
National Children's Choir
Our 5th and 6th Classes are working very hard to learn a repertoire of 16 songs to perform as part of the biennial National Children's Choir Concert which will take place after Easter. This work is being carried out under the expert guidance of Ms. Healy, our Choir coordinator, along with the other 5th / 6th class teachers; Mr Ó Broin, Mr Vance, Mrs Donnelly, Ms Lyons, Ms Duignan and Mr McGovern.
We would also like to thank Mr Dodd for all his work in accompanying the choir on the piano at all of their performances.
Comenius CD Recording
At the same time as rehearsing for the National Children's Choir, our 5th / 6th Classes were also taking part in an International Comenius project. This involved linking up with schools in Nigrán, Galicia in Spain, and Manchester to record a CD and DVD of songs under the title Celtic Roots
The famous Irish musician Dónal Lunny came to the school to record a number of songs with us.
This CD and DVD will be available for sale in the school before Christmas.
Our 6th Class pupils were lucky enough to have a guest speaker. Local Astronomer, Outreach Educator and member of The Saturn Observation Campaign JPL/NASA, Deirdre Kelleghan visited them during the month of October.
Deirdre Kelleghan spoke to the boys about the latest robotic explorers that are out there in the Solar System, in particular the Cassini Mission that is exploring Saturn.
Coughlin Cup Winners:
On the 13th October 2010, St. Cronan's won the Coughlin Cup for the 10th time. The team, under the guidance of manager Mr. Barry excelled on the day. The wining team had three Captains; they were Mark M., Ryan H. and Con G.
Congratulations to all the boys in the squad, and special thanks to Mr. Barry for all of his hard work and training.
