Here's just a little taste of some of the things
that have been happening in the school since the beginning of the year ...
Heineken Cup Visit
On 14th September, the Heineken paid another visit to St. Cronan's. Richie Murphy, one of the Leinster coaches (and a parent in our school) brought the trophy draped in Leinster blue to the school and he was joined by two of the players, Kevin McLaughlin ans Isa Nacewa. Lots of the boys in the school got the chance to ask the players questions about their sporting achievements, training, diet and even a few sneaky questions about money !!
Junior Art Club
Some of the boys in 1st and 2nd class have been very busy on Thursdays after school taking part in a wide variety of artistic endeavours.
Peace Poster Competition:
During the month of November, the boys from 5th and 6th Class in St. Cronan's took part in the International Peace Poster Competition organised by Bray Lions Club.
The standard of artwork was as usual extraordinarily high, and the boys put in a huge amount of thought and effort into their posters. The theme this year was "Children Know Peace" and the winning entries really reflected that sentiment. There were 6 prize-winning entries, and the overall winner was Josh D. from Ms Duignan's 6th Class, with his Purple Castle entry.
All the entrants are displayed in the school hall.
The Parents' Association organised their annual Halloween Party for the boys in 1st and 2nd Class on Friday 28th October.
There were all sorts of activities in the school hall that day. Just take a look at all the fun we had !
St. Cronan's Footballers Win
The Gaelic Football team from St. Cronan's made it back to back victories in the Coughlin Cup Cumann na mBunscol competition, winning the 2011 Competition in November and retaining the trophy after last years victory.
Well done to all the boys involved in the team which was, as always, coached by Mr Dave Barry.
St. Cronan's School Choir Wins
Our school choir, under the musical direction of Ms Joan-Marie Healy and Ms Eimear Willis won 1st prize "The Annsfield Cup" in the Under 14 Unison Singing Competition at the Kilcoole Music Festival.
Big congratulations to all the boys involved who put in so much hard work in the run up to the competition, both before and after school.
Parents' Coffee Morning
Last Friday morning, December 2nd, we held our first Parents Coffee Morning in the hall. A huge thanks to everyone who turned up for a coffee and a chat as it proved to be a huge success.
A very good number attended and a most enjoyable time was had by all. Thanks to the efforts of our PA helpers, the room was full of festive treats and scented candles and Christmas music filled the air!
Those who attended felt strongly that we should meet on a regular basis as not all parents are free to attend our monthly PA meetings but would still like to be involved with the school.
Christmas Craft Fair
The Annual St. Cronan's Christmas Craft Fair took place in the school on Sunday 4th December. There were a host of stalls selling locally made crafts, together with an Art and Photographic display.
Santa Claus made an appearance too, and several children got the chance to meet him and tell him their Christmas wish list, along with having their face painted.
Special thanks to our school secretary, Mrs Anne Ivory, Mrs Catherine Lyons, Mrs Noreen Dodd and the entire Parents' Association team for pulling together such a successful event. In total, just over €3,800 was raised for the school on the day. Thank you to all who supported the Fair !
