Dear Parents / Guardians,
One of the criticisms made during the recent referendum on the Lisbon Treaty referred to the gulf between the bureaucracy of the EU in Brussels and the citizens of Europe. One area where the EU has been very effective however, is in enabling educational institutions and their students throughout Europe to collaborate and engage in shared programmes. One such initiative is the Comenius Project to which we are signed up and this week we have hosted teachers from St. John's Catholic Primary school in Manchester and Humberto Juanes Primary school from the town of Nígran, Galicia, in Northern Spain. This project will enrich our curriculum by integrating a number of subjects under the banner of 'Celtic Roots'.
We hope that over the coming months you will come to see the evidence of this planning as our pupils become 'information ambassadors', bringing home Cultural Travel Bags from both these schools. If you are fortunate to have a loan of the bag for an evening or two, please dip into the contents and you will come to know a little about life in and out of school for pupils in Nígran and in Manchester. You will learn of their customs, songs and multifaceted school activities and in return you will be invited with your child to record your impressions in a diary.
You may follow the various curricular activities undertaken during this project by checking out this website.
