Dear Parents and Guardians,

A belated warm welcome back to all our pupils. While the recent snow entices us to dwell on thoughts of Christmas, school beckons once again. The feeling we are getting is most certainly of relieved parents and even the pupils seem to be more than happy to be back with their teacher and friends.

As always, the lead into Christmas was hectic, but beneath the excitement the real meaning shone through in how we as a school community thought of others less fortunate, as much as we did of ourselves. I think all the boys deserve to be congratulated for their response to the No Uniform appeal which raised €329.30. When added to the proceeds of the 5th and 6th Class "Reeling in the Decades" concert, a total of €2089.30 was contributed to the local Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The money from the carol singing also contributed over €300 each for the schools in our twin parishes of Ikanga (Kenya) and Bugisi (Tanzania). Sincere thanks to all for your support at a most difficult time.

The fundraising efforts of the Parents' Activities Committee has enabled us to finally transfer our computing to a new room and we hope to begin our classes there within the next two or three weeks. In recognition of the fact that it was you, our parents and guardians, who supported our fundraising efforts, we hope to offer adult classes to you when the room is fully functioning. What better motivation to continue our commitment to enhancing all our ICT skills than the Eircom Junior Spider Website Award our school received in January. Comhghairdeas to the many contributors and in particular to our webmaster, Karl Ó Broin.

Finally, for those who regard a dried out Christmas tree as reminder of how long it is since you first put up the Christmas decorations, you may bring it to the school for shredding on Saturday 16th January from 10am.

Sure it will be St. Patrick’s Day before we realise it.

Vaughan Dodd
Principal
