The Haiti Project

The trouble with disasters is that they tend to be one day wonders for the media but for the unfortunate people who suffer, the pain lasts and lasts. Take Haiti as an example. How little we hear about it on our news these days.

During the past few months we have been in touch with an NGO worker who has been assisting a school there. It is called Chretienne De La Restoration and to be honest the conditions are dire.

That NGO worker has now returned to Ireland but by chance one of our past pupils, Damien Meaney has taken up a similar position on the island. Damien has promised to provide us with regular updates on the school and to suggest ways we might involve our pupils in helping it and the pupils.

Welcome to our special "Haiti Page" on our website which will feature comments from Damien accompanied by photos.

The photos he has sent enable us to see conditions for ourselves. The pupils are basically accommodated in tents but the school is offering education despite their poverty.
