Our Third Green Flag
A number of Green Committee pupils accompanied Mr Ó Murchú to Taylor’s Hall, headquarters of An Taisce, to receive our third Green flag. This was awarded to recognise the effort of all classes in successfully adopting the theme of ‘Water Conservation’ into their curriculum during the past year. It follows the awarding of earlier Green flags for the theme of ‘Recycling’ and ‘Energy Conservation’. We wish to thank the environmental team at Wicklow County Council, in particular Moira Byrne and Jim Callery, for their enthusiastic support and advice.
Could we get our Fourth Green Flag?
This year St Cronan's are applying for their fourth green flag. This year our theme is "Eco-Friendly Travel". We still have to keep up the work and make sure that we continue to manage litter and recycling. We must be mindful of the water we use and make sure that no energy is wasted. Watch this space to view our progress.
The school is now piloting a new module, Travel, which looks at how we can choose the healthy option of walking or cycling to school rather than having parents drive to the school. Fewer cars lead to healthier environments and walking is a counter measure to childhood obesity.
One element of engaging the pupils in a Green theme is the composing of slogans. Here are a few from our pupils, including the three adopted by the school:
School water conservation theme:
Water, water everywhere—
Not unless we
Conserve and Care !
Don’t be a drip,
Water, water, it’s the best
Save every drop!
Saves all the flowers
Shines up the rest !
Save some water for the next generation
So they won’t die of dehydration !
School energy conservation slogan:
Energy, energy it’s the best
Save some, save some,
For the rest !
School recycling slogan:
Keep it clean, keep is green !
